windows live messenger status alerts?

I was thinking it would be cool if windows live messenger would alert you when a contact's status changes or when they sign out. Skread makes status alerts possible with skype; I wonder if something could be invented to do the same for messenger. Does anything like this already exist?

Yes. If you have messanger plus you can setup event notifications for individual contacts.

It works very well. not only can I be notified of my contacts' status changes and more, I can personalize status messages such as watching tv or sleeping. it has a number of other features I havent explored yet. very good program. ocne installed, it loads itself right into windows live messenger and just works. you need to do some configuring at the beginning though. but its pretty self explanitory.
